Planted with over 3,100 annuals, this pattern is reminiscent of the windmill that is featured in the logo for the farmers market. A spectacular use of color is displayed in this garden. The center star bursts with vibrant Fantasy Red Petunias, Yellow Becky Rudbeckia, Victoria Blue Salvia and New Look Dusty Miller. Blue Fields Ageratum forms a lush background for the Whirling Star.

The complex, original design of this garden utilizes the most varieties of plants of any garden on the tour. Flat leaf parsley lays an emerald carpet. The corner dovetail patterns are filled with vibrant Safari Marigolds, while Blue Danube Ageratum forms the large blue E’s in opposite corners. Red Sunstorm Vinca fills the large hearts surrounded by Dusty Miller. Lush Fantasy Blue Petunias show off well in this garden.

Linton's Enchanted Gardens

315 CR 17, Elkhart, IN

Breezy Days 32' X 66'

Using a set footprint of turf grass borders, the floral quilt blocks in this 2,112-square-foot garden take on a more formal appearance. This allows maintenance crews easier access to keep this garden in top condition. The pinwheel in the center of the pattern is fashioned using Green Leaf White Eureka Begonias, making them pop in this design.
A background of triangles planted in Bronze Leaf Scarlet Eureka Begonias and Green Leaf Pink Begonias provide rich warm colors for the pinwheels to rest upon.

Replicating a quilt from the Ruthmere collection, this garden is filled with sweet scented, colorful flowers. The basket of the pattern is made up of White Easter Bonnet Sweet Alyssum. This honey scented annual begins in early spring continuing through early fall. It’s an ideal border, staying tidy throughout the growing season. The “flowers” that make up the pattern - Blue Danube Ageratum, Telstar Crimson Dianthus, and Safari Yellow Marigolds - display a spectacular show of color.

Harts of the Elkhart County 4-H Fair 20' X 40'

The original design of this garden gives it the appearance of three distinct sections. It’s tightly planted using 4.38 plants per square foot. Eureka Bronze Leaf Scarlet Begonias make up the three hearts, a great choice for intensity of color. The hearts seemingly float in a sea of Blue Fields Ageratum. This flower is one of the few “true” blues. Yellow Boy Marigolds are used as an accent border with corners of richly textured Flat Leaf Parsley. Green is nature’s most common color representing life, youth and growth which are essential elements of the 4-H program.

Bird's Eye View 28' X 31'

Whoever said gardening was “for the birds” never looked at this originally designed garden! Working from the outside inward you first find a bright border of Bronze Leaf Scarlet Eureka Begonias. A mix of Gold and Yellow Durango Marigolds creates a second border in a picket design. The grass path surrounding the central medallion allows for caretaking and viewing. Another border of Scarlet Begonias further frames the center medallion. A Marigold diamond set on point holds a four-pointed star.

Greencroft Middlebury
701 Windridge Drive, Middlebury, IN

Barn Raising  24' X 36'

Green leaved Eureka Begonias in white and red pack this 864-square-foot garden with color and lush foliage. The square-in-a-square garden design, plotted out by a retired engineer, uses light and dark strips which demands clean crisp lines and intense color. That’s exactly what these plants deliver. The compact habit and rounded leaves form neat lines over which a delicate, cheerful, waxy bloom hangs.

Krider Gardens
302 W. Bristol St. (CR 8), Middlebury, IN

Maple Leaf 20' X 40'

This quilt garden features a diamond pattern of Picobella Blue Petunias that form the basis of the design. Picobella is the best of the “milliflora” petunias, picking up where the Fantasy series leaves off and developing into even more vigorous, well-branched, weather tolerant plants. Another set of diamond insets are filled with New Look Dusty Miller. This oak leaf variety is whiter than others making it an outstanding contrast in the garden. By combining red, yellow and orange dwarf cosmos, the color palette is reminiscent of sugar maples in autumn and gives an appliqué look.

Recovery 40' X 40'

This quilt garden is laid out as a nine-patch pattern. Starting in the center is a crimson block of Fresh Look Red Celosia. Joined to each side of the center block are four squares filled with Safari Yellow Marigolds. This color combination is an attention grabber and pulls the viewer into the garden. The four-patches in each corner of the design are alternately planted with Fantasy Blue Petunias and Fresh Look Red Celosia. The saw-tooth pattern created with Wizard Golden Coleus makes an eye-catching border around the nine-patch. The outermost border of triangles is jam-packed with more Fantasy Blue Petunias.

Shoofly Garden - 37' X 47'
The Shoofly pattern has been creatively interpreted using red and white annual Vinca. It translates well in this garden design as it reminds us of the delightful calico fabrics often used in quilt designs. Vinca Cooler Coconut was used as the light value while Vinca Cooler Hot Rose represents the dark hues that would be found in a traditional patchwork quilt. Mulch seperates each block and adds a durable path for viewing and weeding. Turf grass forms the border of the quilt top and final edging that finishes the quilt.

Dove at the Window
34' X 34'

This well thought out garden is brimming with just over 3,500 Begonias. The Begonia was a winner for them last year, so they chose to repeat it for success again this year. By selecting both Green and Bronze Leaf varieties, they are assured of continual contrast in foliage and in flower. White Bronze Leafed Begonia form the background of the quilt garden. Pink is the color of choice for the dovetails. Next you see white and pink bi-color plants forming the window frame. Inside the window is a vivid field of Scarlet Begonias.

Stone Mason's Puzzle
30' X 3'
Wakarusa loves its quilt garden which is evident in the care to detail given the translation of this design with over 3,100 flowers. Each corner of this garden contains a block of Fantasy Carmine Pink Petunias. Its mounded habit thrives in the corners of this bed. Surrounding the blocks are Bonanza Gold Marigolds. Red Vista Salvia adds the next layer of color further defining this bold geometric pattern. Bold color saturated blooms of Fantasy Blue Petunia form a cross dividing the puzzle. A final mound of pink petunias serves as the center point of the design.
