Applications for 2016 ElkhartWood Community Tree Planting Projects Now Available

Applications for the October 2016 ElkhartWood Community Tree Planting Program are now available and will be accepted until September 26! Groups who are interested in greening the community by planting trees are encouraged to apply. The program supports community tree planting projects in the Elkhart area on public land. Selected projects will receive up to 15 trees, technical assistance and education on the proper planting and care of trees. The tree planting event will be scheduled during the month of October. ElkhartWood is an exciting, community-driven program that connects the Elkhart community to the city forest. The program is a partnership between the City of Elkhart Forestry Division, the Elkhart Environmental Center (EEC), and the ElkhartWood Network. Local woodworkers and sawyers make up the network and purchase high-quality logs that come from trees removed as part of the city’s Forestry operations. The sale of these logs supports a community tree planting project in Elkhart each October. The ElkhartWood program began in the spring of 2014 and received the 2015 Indiana Gold Leaf Beautification Award.
