Elkhart Municipal Band Free Holiday Concert

Our concert opens with one of the finest Christmas medleys ever composed! Leroy Anderson’s “A Christmas Festival.” You’ll hear many of your favorite carols in this masterwork!

Next, the band slows things down with a beautiful song made popular by Amy Grant back in 1992. The lyrics perfectly fit the world we live in today! (No More lives torn apart/and wars would never start/time would heal all hearts/everyone would have a friend/right would always win/and love would never end – This is our grown-up Christmas wish!)

Next, Jay Dawson creates a new twist to the “Carol of the Bells” with the fast-paced Holiday Piece!

Then, we proudly feature Miss Rania El Kareh, one of the best singers around, asking Santa for the gifts most women want for Christmas!

Following Rania, our Associate Director (Steve Allen) steps to the podium to conduct Tom Wallace’s, “On This Day” which is based on a lesser-known carol, “Personent Hodie.”

Next we welcome our Hispanic friends out in our audience with another Tom Wallace arrangement of the Jose Feliciano hit, “Feliz Navidad.”

For the last few years, Conductor Dave has programmed a tune by David Lovrien which displays several carols in a minor key. The audiences in the past have enjoyed this piece! Today, you will hear the sequel, Minor Alterations No. 2 (Carols from the Dark Side), which again places carols in minor keys! It’s different, but we think this will become another crowd favorite for years to come!

The 2019 version of Tuba Christmas is next. Under the direction of Steve Allen, this year’s performance is dedicated to long-time Tuba member and former band president Phil Penn (who recently passed). We’re sure Phil will be playing along on his tuba up in Heaven! Thanks, Phil, for the memories!

After the band returns, we program the next 2 selections just for the kids out in our audience! If they have seen “The Polar Express,” we know they will enjoy Jerry Brubaker’s arrangement he titles “Concert Suite from The Polar Express!”

Oh no, we just found out that Rania has entered a time machine. She has been taken back to her past when she was only 10 years old! That was the year she requested a very unusual present from Santa Claus! You’ll have to attend the concert to find out what she wished for!

Our finale makes the perfect closer for our attempt to give you ‘that Holiday feeling!’ Lively, and with a little touch of jazz, we know you will enjoy Jay Dawson’s version of the tune “Go Tell It on the Mountain!”

We hope to see all of you at this festive, FREE, family-oriented event that will provide the perfect start to your Holiday season!
