Flintknapping Get Away Day

Finding yourself in the outdoors without a knife or a tool can make even the simplest task a challenge. Flintknapping is the process of chipping away material from stones, such as flint or obsidian, in a controlled manner, to produce sharp projectile objects (ie. Arrowheads) or primitive stone tools. Participants will learn basic techniques such as percussion and pressure flaking, and shaping projectile points to create arrowheads, spear points, knives and other stone tools.
