JULY 6 Sarah Dolezal, South Bend, IN: The artist speaks about her re-purposed and found-object sculpture.
JULY 13 Film: “Henri Rousseau: Jungles in Paris”. A film from the National Gallery of Art explores the work of the French self-taught artist championed by Picasso.
JULY 20 NO BOUNDARIES: Outsider & Folk Art: In this PART I gallery talk, Curator Brian Byrn discusses the new exhibit of works by self-taught artists.
JULY 27 Seward Johnson Project & film: Curator Brian Byrn discusses the county-wide exhibition of life-size bronzes by Seward Johnson in conjunction with the 10th Anniversary of the Quilt Gardens project.
AUG 3 Todd Hoover, Artist & Collector The artist speaks about his collection of Outsider Art that has been built over many years, the objects that inspired his teaching over many decades, & why it continues to be of importance.
AUG 10 Ervin Beck, Professor Emeritus Folklorist & retired Goshen College Professor discusses his collection of Mennonite & Amish Folk Art, discussing works by Emma Schrock, reverse painting on glass, & the influences of high art on Amish culture.
AUG 17 Keith & Ann Graber Miller, Found Gallery, Goshen, IN Co-owner of Found Gallery in Goshen and one of the lenders to the exhibit, Ann Graber Miller, speaks about she & husband Keith’s world adventures finding unique artifacts many by self-taught artists.
AUG 24 “Jean-Michel Basquiat” (FILM Part I, 45 min) This definitive documentary delves into Basquiat as an iconoclast. His dense, bebop- influenced neo-expressionist work emerged while minimalist, conceptual art was the fad; as a successful black artist, he was constantly confronted by racism and misconceptions. Basquiat’s own words and work powerfully convey the mystique and allure of both the artist and the man.
