Visit the Elkhart County Historical Museum for a sense of place during your visit to Northern Indiana’s Amish Country. Charming mid-century school transformed into a museum which houses more than 15,000 artifacts chronicling the county's heritage. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this building offers a large auditorium with stage. Outside catering permitted.
The museum holds a collection of nearly 30,000 artifacts of local history and is considered to be one of the top ten county history museums in Indiana. Eleven thematic galleries illustrate the history of the area from pioneer settlement to Elkhart’s band instrument industry. You will not want to miss seeing the mammoth tusk and tool collection.
Beautiful textiles bursting with color and rich with stories come alive for groups at the Elkhart County Historical Museum! The Museum offers a popular behind-the-scenes quilt show "Stitches of Devotion" for adult tour groups. The show and tell provides an opportunity for visitors to view 10 to 20 quilts from the collection that spans over 150 years.
Youth tour groups can also experience special programs like meeting a costumed pioneer farmer or soldier from the American Civil War. Call to inquire about current temporary exhibits.
