When the Blue Gate opened in 1986 it had only 50 seats, but after 15 years the little restaurant had become so popular because of its great food and service it could have up to a 2-hour wait. It was then the Riegsecker Family decided to build the new Blue Gate, now a cornerstone of Shipshewana. It resembles a rambling white farmhouse and presently seats 750. They still serve up their famous home-style Amish favorites in beautiful downtown Shipshewana, but without the 2-hour wait. Dine family-style or from the menu on slow roasted beef and ham, chicken and noodles, homemade bread and 27 kinds of pie. Plus take in a musical or concert featuring nationally known talent at the Blue Gate Theater.
Hours: Monday - Saturday 7 a.m. - 9 p.m. (Winter 7 a.m. - 8 p.m.)
