Water from Elkhart’s historic well field once powered the city’s 19th century mills. Today, it streams through and inspires 36 acres of ponds and woodlands where 24 individual gardens and event spaces will be created in this native habitat. The woodland setting, just minutes from downtown’s RiverWalk and restaurants, features winding stone paths, charming pump houses and whimsical sculpture.
Walkways and bridges offer the best views of Wellfield Botanic Gardens’ centerpiece: actual and reflected views of the colorful quilt-themed garden. Elkhart’s newest attraction promises visitors of all ages a unique opportunity for education, inspiration and the pure enjoyment of nature and art combined.
