Andrew Skipper Visits Elk River Upcycle in Elkhart, Indiana

Going “green” is a trend many businesses have embraced and I only see that increasing over the coming years.  But did you know that you can also shop “green?”  Stores that specialize in architectural salvage and vintage pieces help the environment because they prevent many items from going into landfills.  The bonus is that quite a few of these pieces are high quality and very unique!

Elk River Upcycle is a store located on Main Street in downtown Elkhart that specializes in local architectural salvage.  They work with demolition contractors to save some pretty spectacular features from buildings that are being torn down.  You can find anything from solid doors and stained glass windows to Oil paintings and fun signs.

At the rear of the store is an interior design studio called n.wirt design which happens to feature artwork by various local artists. The art is constantly changing and the studio regularly participates in the Elkhart ArtWalks, allowing shoppers to meet the artists.

Whether you’re looking for that perfect item to re-purpose or for a one of a kind art piece, Elk River Upcycle and n.wirt design are an ideal place to start.  With the vast array of architectural salvage (at a variety of price points), you may find yourself taking a piece of Elkhart home with you!
