Four corn mazes for a day of family fun

There’s nothing like the crunch of fallen leaves, the cool crispness of fall in the air, and … getting lost in a corn maze. Here are some great places for an afternoon of family fun:

Shipshewana Corn Maze

555 N. Morton St., Shipshewana,

You may not be able to pack all the fun into one visit. There’s the gargantuan corn maze, of course, but there are also games galore, a hay ride and a train ride, play areas, and spaces for you to stretch out and picnic. Open Fridays and Saturdays.

Knollbrook Farm

15463 C.R. 46, Goshen,

Two 5-acre corn mazes, 5 miles worth of pathways and some twists to the challenge of finding your way – sign posts, codes and trivia questions. Crack the code and maybe escape the maze faster, so then you can pick up some pumpkins at the pumpkin patch. Make some time to tour the working dairy farm too! Open Friday through Sunday.

Southgate Crossing

27751 C.R. 26, Elkhart,

Check out the brand new corn maze featuring a fresh food and buy local theme. Roast some marshmallows around the fire and pick up the perfect pumpkin. For hungrier appetites, order up a hot grilled sandwich and browse the shops inside the Big Red Barn.

Open Wednesdays through Sundays.

A-mazing Acres

18430 U.S. 12 E., Edwardsburg, Mich.,

Just over the state line north of Elkhart is a farm that lives up to its name – amazing! Challenge yourself with the corn maze, have fun with the games and activities, and take a hay ride and see all the farm animals. You won’t want to leave without a visit to the pumpkin patch. Open Wednesdays through Sundays.
