See the lights
Winter Wonderland Holiday Lights, Fridays and Saturdays from November 29 to December 28: The Wellfield Botanic Gardens, 1011 N. Main St., Elkhart, is transformed into a wintry paradise of glowing garden spaces. It’s a one-of-a-kind experience to stroll the promenade, stopping to warm yourself by a fire, taking pictures at breathtaking lookouts, and sipping on hot chocolate.
Rejoice in the music
Elkhart Municipal Band Free Holiday Concert, 1:45 p.m. December 8: The Jubilee Bell Ringers kick off this upbeat concert at the Lerner Theatre, 410 S. Main St., Elkhart, and is followed by the Elkhart Municipal Band, including the traditional Tuba Christmas that brings the house down.
Get out together
“A Coppes Christmas,” December 6-7: Coppes Commons, 401 E. Market St., has it all this Christmas season, with an interactive live nativity walk from 5 to 9 p.m. December 6 on the ground floor. All weekend long, the second floor transforms into “It’s a Wonderful Market” with artisans and other seasonal wares making for the perfect holiday atmosphere.
Art on ice
Shipshewana Ice Festival, December 27-28: You’ll be wowed by the amazing ice sculptures created by local and regional artists at locations throughout the town of Shipshewana. Even better, it’s all free.
Trees and more
Christmas Tree Lighting, December 14: The Middlebury community gathers at Memorial Park to experience the sights, tastes, and sounds of Christmas starting at 6 p.m.
And then there’s New Year’s
Amish Acres, Nappanee, hosts a truly unique New Year’s Eve celebration. There’s a bittersweet tinge to the festivities as the Pletcher family is closing the historic attraction after this event. Enjoy one last time a dinner in the restaurant barn and a performance of “Beauty and the Beast” in The Round Barn Theatre. Following the show, enjoy hors d’oeuvres then join the show’s cast for the annual New Year’s Eve cabaret and ring in the New Year with a fireworks finale over the farm’s pond.
