Top 5 Things to Do in September
September is the time to get busy and enjoy those last delicious warm days of summer:
Nappanee Apple Festival
Celebrate all things apple with this showstopper of a weekend festival from Sept. 19-22. The city of Nappanee goes all out for the Nappanee Apple Festival — the parade just oozes small-town charm, then grab a slice of the 7-foot apple pie (the largest in Indiana!) Fun activities for the kids, live entertainment, and plenty of apple (and other) treats make for a full day.
Summer Chill Concert Series
Live music on the banks of the scenic Elkhart River is just the biggest draw to the Summer Chill Concert Series at NIBCO Water and Ice Park, 303 NIBCO Parkway, Elkhart, on the evening of Sept. 20. Throw in the on-site splash pad to col off and the food and drink vendors and you have a great night. Bring in your own chairs and, if you want, a picnic basket.
A Simple Sanctuary at Blue Gate Theatre
A little suspense and a little romance? Sounds like fun at “A Simple Sanctuary” at the Blue Gate Theatre, 175 Van Buren St., Shipshewana. This musical based on the best-seller by Beverly Lewis continues its run through the end of October, so make sure to get out and see it before it closes. Ticket information here.
Arts on the Millrace
Goshen’s Millrace Canal Trail comes alive with more than just joggers, bikers and strollers. Arts on the Millrace, September 7th from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. will also bring artists in all fine arts media for sure-to-be-gorgeous, family-friendly event. Stick around for the food trucks and a beer and wine tent.
Classic Car Cruise In at the Essenhaus
Turn back the clock at the Classic Car Cruise In on Thursday evenings at Das Dutchman Essenhaus. From 4:30 to 8 p.m. Thursdays, the lovely Essenhaus campus, 240 U.S. 20, brings in the hot rods and roadsters we all love. Everyone can enjoy live entertainment, restaurant specials and door prizes. Don’t wait — the Classic Car Cruise In closes for the season at the end of September
